Here's a quick glance at what new and recent titles are in theaters and at home. For your consideration is a happy mishmash of art house and blockbuster films and series. I'll be watching Lady in the Lake on Apple TV+ this weekend. I'll also be wrapping up a second viewing of Disney+'s Star Wars: The Acolyte.

I recommend you give A24's Tuesday or Young Woman and the Sea a chance if you missed the in theaters. You can rent or own Tuesday at your favorite digital retailers. Young Woman and the Sea is now available on Disney+.

I wasn't head over heels for Twisters. You won't hate it. You might love the final act. It just takes forever to get there.

Here are twentysomething options for your weekend viewing.

Lady in the Lake (Apple TV+)

Synopsis: Based on the 2019 novel by New York Times bestselling author Laura Lippman, “Lady in the Lake” is the thrilling, seven-part limited series starring Academy Award and Golden Globe Award winner Natalie Portman, who also serves as executive producer, and Emmy Award nominee Moses Ingram, and created and directed by Alma Har’el.

When the disappearance of a young girl grips the city of Baltimore on Thanksgiving 1966, the lives of two women converge on a fatal collision course. Maddie Schwartz (Portman) is a Jewish housewife seeking to shed a secret past and reinvent herself as an investigative journalist, and Cleo Sherwood (Ingram) is a mother navigating the political underbelly of Black Baltimore while struggling to provide for her family. Their disparate lives seem parallel at first, but when Maddie becomes fixated on Cleo’s mystifying death, a chasm opens that puts everyone around them in danger. From visionary director Alma Har’el, “Lady in the Lake” emerges as a feverish noir thriller and an unexpected tale of the price women pay for their dreams.

Starring alongside Portman and Ingram in the series are Y’lan Noel, Brett Gelman, Byron Bowers, Noah Jupe, Josiah Cross, Mikey Madison and Pruitt Taylor Vince.

In the early 1930s, Columbia Pictures’ fate changed with the arrival of director Frank Capra, who quickly established a new archetype of Hollywood glamour in Jean Harlow’s moniker-defining Platinum Blonde and, just three years later, swept the Oscars with the comedy sensation It Happened One Night. The studio soon became the foremost home of screwball comedy, with stars such as Cary Grant (THE AWFUL TRUTH) and Jean Arthur (THE MORE THE MERRIER) and major directors like George Cukor (IT SHOULD HAPPEN TO YOU) and Howard Hawks (HIS GIRL FRIDAY) taking the genre to dizzying heights of lunacy and sophistication. Defined by their rapid-fire (often female-driven) banter, playful sense of absurdism, effortless style, and topsy-turvy take on traditional gender roles, these films remain some of the most enduring treasures of Hollywood’s golden age.

This leaves Vivienne to fend for herself in a place controlled by corrupt Mayor Rudolph Schiller (Danny Huston) and his unscrupulous business partner, powerful rancher Alfred Jeffries (Garret Dillahunt). Alfred’s violent, wayward son Weston (Solly McLeod) aggressively pursues Vivienne, who is determined to resist his unwanted advances. When Olsen returns from the war, he and Vivienne must confront and make peace with the person each has become.
